Happy Holidays everyone!
This is our first installment of The Melting Pot, a monthly newsletter that will take you along on a behind-the-scenes journey of Lovelight – the ups & downs and everything in between.
We’re in the midst of holiday madness, which, in other words, means we’ve been losing our sh*t a little. Our production team is made up of 5 people, so between markets, workshops, and other events, most days we’re stretched pretty thin. Even though we’re pushed to our limits at times, the support we’ve felt from our community – from comments and shares on Instagram to conversations at markets and meeting so many of you at the shop – makes the demands of this season worth it.
Some Autumn highlights:
A Getaway to the Outer Banks
It’s difficult for us to leave the studio, but the time away is necessary and rewarding. We recently took a trip to the Outer Banks, which is a special place for us. We surfed, unplugged, and collected new glaze and texture concepts based off of the sand and vegetation of the dunes. We also brought back more materials for people to use during some new workshops we’re planning.
Field & Supply
This was our third year vending at Field & Supply in Kingston, NY, and it was also the 10th anniversary of F & S ! We loved catching up with vendors we’ve met over the years, like MQuan Studio and The Falls, and meeting new people like the makers behind Small Goods Design and My Neighbor’s Tallow. Hearing about other makers’ processes and ethos is always inspiring.
It’s nearly impossible to have a real work / life balance as a small business that requires us to wear many different hats. Things that we’ve been loving lately, that keep us feeling motivated and supported:
- Focusing on health: eating well, exercising, and getting enough sleep
- Grabbing dinner at The Grand Tavern
- Getting in the ocean as often as we can – surfing, swimming, or just a cold plunge!
We are excited to peel back the curtain for more newsletter-exclusive goodies on the next Melting Pot - stay tuned!
Love,
Olivia and Mike
